There is an exact, precise distance between us

that can be measured in decimal steps.

We hold our hands apart at an academic length

and divide the distance by fractions.

I'm not very good at this stuff, so it stresses me out.

But I maintain it all anyway.

It's not a facade or pretense, but mathematical reality

and I was always better at poetry.
