" Prima, I'm assigning you to be Noctis's long-term aide," William told him over the phone. " On paper, you're the cultural liaison for our new medical department. Just keep an eye on her and help her out with the research."

Prima didn't really want this position, as he still felt awkward around the overly taciturn girl, but he thought about what he'd overheard Kirie saying at the bar, and felt a flash of sympathy for William's unflagging commitment to surveillance.

" Right," he said. " Anything else?"

" Not right now," William responded. " I'll call you if something comes up."

He hung up.

...Kirie leaving had really done something to him. Prima wasn't sure what, but definitely something. He was shut up in his office writing all day and all night. He wasn't sure if he was even sleeping; he hadn't seen him furtively slink out of Nova's room in the early morning for a while.
